Taxes

If you know me, you know I lust for more power in my computer, at all times I want for my computer to better than it is now….

Well, I did my taxes on Friday, which will allow me to finally put the finishing touches on planned upgrades to my Gateway E1500-D, amongst other things.

I have already ordered my DVD burner (with lightscribe!!) and as soon as I get the bulk of my refund I will order my new graphics card and twin barracudas to finish the job. Along with this I need to upgrade the power supply from a 305 to a 400, which will probably be a pain, but I dont think this wimpy 305 will be able to handle the new GPU, DVD burner and beefy hard drives all at once.

Other plans with my taxes? New TV, bout damn time, and an xbox 360 elite. I need that 120 GB HDD, and new xbox comes with new warranty, plus it has newer parts which allow me to not have to jack up the volume to hear my tv over the damn jet engine currently situated on my TV stand.

Nothing else going on, just felt like ranting like an idiot, have a good one.

Windows 7 Beta Thoughts.

hey,
firstly i have to say, holy shit Don you've like taken over this blog haha you really loaded the posts i haven't got to reading them so I will in a sec now onto Windows 7.

Well finally the public beta is out and working and although i had the pre-beta on my computers at work, they changed some things since then but i'll talk about it as though its the first time i've ever seen it.

I'm very impressed overall with Windows 7, it seems to perform very well and has a swell of personalization features, and settings that we're not available in Vista. Speaking of Vista though this really doesn't feel much of a new operating system as much as its just an update from Vista, kind of like Win 98 took over Win 95, they looked a like but there were a few key features that separated them.

I feel that Windows 7 is kind of the bridge between Vista and XP which is apparently what most people are looking for, its compatible with almost anything if not naturally you can set it in compatibility mode (which I had to do to install GTA4 PC).

One of the really nice features is the quick preview and the way the task bar is now laid out, the quick preview allows you to hover over the window  you are interested in, and it makes that window the active window then when your done you move the mouse off the task on the task bar and all your windows re-open, or you can click on it to open it. As well having a jump to desktop button in the bottom right corner is nice.

All in all very impressed and I think windows 7 is the version of windows that people are going to start upgrading too and you can be sure my mac will /is bootcamped with this one.

Windows 7 Beta

So, I am trying to make sure I get a key for the beta, cause I am excited about this and want to test. Well, pretty much 2 sites have been identified as being places to go to know when the beta is up and get your key, and both these sites are being pounded with so many hits that they are basically getting DoS.

This sucks, and the damn beta isnt even out yet, if it comes out while im at work I might be screwed.

Windows Live

So Microsoft released a bundle of programming, some of the programs are new versions of old stuff.  Like messenger and movie maker, but some is new, Ive been playing for a little while and its some slick new stuff.  Like right now I am writing this in Live Writer, which I mentioned in my last post.  Live writer is a nice little application that allows you to write to your blog and basically have access to anything on your HD, makes it easy to add content to a blog because its basically drag and drop.

                                     The Master

Like that, I just dragged the master into this with no real problem putting him where I wanted him, that dirty old master…

Its the same (yet to test) I would assume for other media like video and such, as there are options for those things on the edge of my screen, taunting me.

Then theres wave 3 of messenger, which has streamlined the interface and overall looks much the same, but in nice new packaging, still very cool.

I played with the new Movie Maker for about 30 seconds before I realized it doesnt want to split clips for me, which is the first thing I look for in video editing, if im just missing it, then I may find it later, but without that no more testing for me.

Photo gallery is something thats nice to have and tells me that I can easily share photos using it, when I have some photos I want to share I will tell you how that goes (never gonna happen).

Lastly theres some family safety thing that I will probably never take a second look at, unless it decides to rear its ugly head and tell me I cant do something on my own damn computer.

Other than that, I will be up tomorrow attempting to get my grubby hands on a Windows 7 beta key so that I can have much joy in my life until august when I will become sad again from the beta ending.

That is all…

Testing Live Writer

Testing something new from Microsoft, Windows Live Writer, so far its already wow-ed me by importing the proper settings from the blog and allowing me to write here as if im doing it within the confines of our layout.

Better news from Microsoft, Windows 7 beta goes live on Friday, Im running that as soon as I get my greasy little paws on it, more later
